Premier League Week 9
Saturday, 1 October 2022
Arsenal vs Tottenham
Pintsized
After the shock 2-1 defeat to Manchester United, you would have been forgiven for wondering whether Arteta’s youthful squad could bounce back immediately. A 3-0 dismantling away at Brentford silenced such doubts and gave further approval to Arsenal’s sustained success at the top. Conte’s spurs have quietly amassed five wins in seven, but aside from their 6-2 thumping of Leicester, have largely shaved by in matches.
Prediction: 2-2
Ryan
Tight affair with a lot of drama.
Prediction: 1-1
Steviano
Prediction: 2-2

Liverpool vs Brighton
Pintsized
Sat #8, securing only two wins and struggling to stop leaking goals, Liverpool will have benefitted the most from an extended stay on the training ground. A Potter-less Brighton is an unknown entity but their individual parts on paper fail to inspire hopes of a continuation of good form.
Prediction: 3-0
Ryan
A tough one to predict with unknown entity in Brighton’s new manager. Extra quality on home side should be enough.
Prediction: 2-1
Steviano
Prediction: 3-1

Fulham vs Newcastle
Pintsized
Fulham sat near the Champions League by October was not a sentence I ever expected to type. Hey ho, we’re all just living in Aleksandar Mitrovic’s world. Newcastle’s long injury list leaves them once again short up top, but the return of Bruno Guimaraes will help provide more chomp than bark.
Prediction: 2-2
Ryan
Newcastle don’t win a lot but haven’t lost many either. Fulham are confident enough to keep their good run of form going.
Prediction: 1-1
Steviano
Prediction: 2-1

Southampton vs Everton
Pintsized
At a certain point, Hasenhuttl may have to revert back to his proven high-press football. The transition to a heavier possession-based game was admirable but somewhat naive against the stacked squads dominating the EPL. Lampard’s snoozeball overcame a limp West Ham, but by God, is it deathly boring to watch as a neutral.
Prediction: 1-0
Ryan
Home team struggling for excitement whilst away side struggling for consistency. Going with Lampard to keep the morale up in Liverpool.
Prediction: 0-1
Steviano
Prediction: 1-0

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
Pintsized
Palace’s attack, headed by the deadly Wilfried Zaha, is potent against any opponent. Under a Chelsea headed by Graham Potter, now with the grace of time to implement his preferred system, this should prove a tricky puzzle for Vieira’s attack to crack. Expecting Reece James to run rampant into holes behind Tyrick Mitchell.
Prediction: 1-2
Ryan
Should be an interesting match. Curveball prediction of a home win with Potter edging closer to the inevitable England role.
Prediction: 2-1
Steviano
Prediction: 1-1

Bournemouth vs Brentford
Pintsized
Bournemouth has the unenviable task of handling a scorned Brentford. The Cherries’ Championship-calibre defence is not suited to handling the likes of Ivan Toney and will prove easy pickings. No Christian Norgaard may cause slight issues in the typically slick midfield operations for Brentford, though.
Prediction: 0-2
Ryan
Perhaps a foolish bet to back Bournemouth in the top flight but as long as Gary O’Neill remains caretaker rather than permanent manager, the positivity will continue to flow.
Prediction: 2-1
Steviano
Prediction: 2-2

West Ham vs Wolves
Pintsized
I don’t want to be that guy and demand Moyes out. That would be silly so early into the season after big cash was thrown about in summer. Yet it has to be noted, the Hammers have been stale the entirety of the 2022 calendar year. To not have upgraded either full-back was foolish. Wolves are technically superb yet continue to flounder in the final third. In a battle between the two least productive teams (sharing six goals scored over fourteen matches), this could be a brutal watch.
Prediction: 0-0
Ryan
No goals scored or conceded? Sounds like a Wolves match to me. West Ham need to improve their league form greatly.
Prediction: 0-0
Steviano
Prediction: 1-0

Premier League Week 9

Manchester City vs Manchester United
Pintsized
The Sweatihad welcomes Erik ten Hair’s mighty Red Army. Having secured a whopping twenty-three goals in seven matches, it feels like City’s league to lose already – even as they sit two points below #1 Arsenal. As so many times in the post-Fergie era, there is still a sickly ‘paper tiger’ feel around a team that can down tools at any minute.
Prediction: 3-1
Ryan
The home side should win the league again but they’ve been a bit sloppy recently with dropped points here and there. United should be quietly confident of picking something up and dare I say it, stopping Haaland in his tracks.
Prediction: 1-1
Steviano
Prediction: 3-1

Leeds United vs Aston Villa
Pintsized
Jesse Marsch is emerging as the American Bad Boy of the Premier League. The Yank has added stability to the crazed attacking of Bielsa-ball, but as seen against Brentford, the Yorkshire outfit falls apart at the drop of a hat. Aston Villa continues to waste their wealth of talent, although a measly 1-0 scalp over Southampton may grease the wheels.
Prediction: 2-0
Ryan
Unpredictable home side to show out against sloppy Stevie G side.
Prediction: 3-1
Steviano
Prediction: 2-1

Premier League Week 9
Monday, 3 October 2022
Leicester City vs Notts Forest
Pintsized
This is the perfect match for Rodgers. Leicester has been, by far and away, the biggest disappointment in the league so far. Having had time to regroup over the past fortnight, Leicester has the opportunity to start the season afresh. Against an opponent almost as leaky at the back as themselves, this should be a high-scoring affair which could see either man see their head roll.
Prediction: 3-2
Ryan
First Midlands derby will equal first Leicester win of the season.
Prediction: 1-0
Steviano
Prediction: 1-3
