Premier League Week 8: Predictions, Odds and Results
Pintsized Background
Monarchies, eh? The hangover from the Queen’s passing carries over to Premier League Week 8 as three of the spiciest games have been postponed. A stretched police budget is hardly the doing of a few footy matches – yet, that’s a conversation for another day.

Aston Villa vs Southampton
Pintsized
Prediction: 1-2
Ryan
One of two Friday night matches which is standard mid-table stuff. Aston Villa sprang a surprise by holding a dominant City to a draw. With better officiating, they could even have had all 3 points. The Saints had very little to celebrate with a boring 1-0 loss at Wolves with not much to take out of the game. You would think then that the home team would be fancying a victory here? However I’m going to give Southampton the benefit of the doubt as they’ll be able to play better against a team willing to attack.

Will this be another case of Premiership match this year and Championship match next? If the home side continue to blow away 2 goal leads to sides almost certainly doomed in Bournemouth, they’ll be fast tracking their way there. Another team fancied to be the yo-yo club Fulham are more than holding their own under Marco Silva. Although Spurs dominated, the away side had their moments to come away with more than a pat on the back. I can see a draw here.

Wolves vs Man City
Pintsized
The last-minute panic signing of Diego Costa is a necessary gamble designed to improve on Wolves’ pitiful 3 league goals. An ACL explosion to newboy, Sasa Kalajdziv, was unfortunate, yet Bruno Lage had the entirety of summer to set about fixing his attack. Meanwhile, Haaland’s magical start with the Citizens shows no signs of slowing.
Prediction: 0-2
Ryan
A nice flavour of Portugal vs Spain here with two contrasting styles clashing Saturday lunchtime. Wolves will be happy with their last victory and their score few, concede fewer approach is effective rather than exciting. One team that is exciting to watch is Man City. For all their bluster, they dropped silly points at Villa Park but could have been worse. It would be silly to bet against the champions but it perhaps might not be blow away at Molineux.

Prediction: 3-0

Newcastle vs Bournemouth
Pintsized
Newcastle is suffering in the middle of the park with injuries to Jonjo Shelvey and Bruno Guimaraes, but Bournemouth will struggle to exploit Longstaff. Solanke notching his name on the goals list against Forest may settle the former U-20 World Cup winner into Premier League life. More likely is Alexander Isak to tear the Cherries a new hole.
Prediction: 3-1
Ryan
Shall we call this the Eddie Howe derby? Let’s not. But Howe is indeed a Bournemouth legend for his services at the Vitality Stadium but in a rare occurrence, will have to face his old side. His current team Newcastle were robbed of 3 points last time out thanks to a crazy VAR decision. The away side impressed in a comeback win in Nottingham taking advantage of a random implosion. There should be no repeat of that here and Newcastle will have too much.
Prediction: 3-1

Prediction: 2-0

Tottenham vs Leicester
Pintsized
Has Conte finally cracked Richarlison? The Brazilian is a fascinating enigma, but two mid-week goals over Marseille will have gone some way to justifying his summer price tag. Quick shout out to Emerson Royal who is on course for a breakout season. Aside from James Maddison, and occasional flashes from Youri Tielemans, Leicester look dead and buried, forgoing huge investment over winter.
Prediction: 4-2
Ryan
A few years ago, this was a potential title decider. That’s not the case right now but the entertainment should be there. Spurs are quietly going about their business with a routine win over Fulham. Leicester are far from spectacular and are flirting with relegation like form. A thumping from Brighton doesn’t help their cause and improvements must be made quickly. Doing that against Conte is near impossible and will prove so again.
Prediction: 3-1

Brentford vs Arsenal
Pintsized
A stern test for Arsenal. Dreams of an Invincibles repeat were shattered by Manchester United, but Arsenal remains seated atop the table. If Arsenal commits to width against Brentford, we could see huge holes for Ivan Toney to roam unchallenged. A fascinating back-and-forth with Brentford’s set-pieces to make the difference.
Prediction: 2-1
Ryan
As unlikely as Arsenal’s 100% record has been, it had to come to an end eventually. That it did at the hands of their old rivals United has to sting. They played well but were tactically naive. Their opponents are the opposite as proven in their blowout win over Leeds. Congratulations to Ivan Toney on a well overdue England call-up. This should be a challenging affair but Arsenal have shown enough to prove they can improve on last season.
Prediction: 1-2

Everton vs West Ham
Pintsized
Obligatory inflammatory opinion on VAR officials – the standard truly is atrocious. Stamford Bridge debacle aside, West Ham x Everton has all the trimmings to be the worst match of the season. Lampard’s desire to time waste from the 20″ onwards, combined with Moyes’ counter-attack first ball, could see a real stinker at Goodison.
Prediction: 0-0
Ryan
A classic Premier League match-up but both teams not where they want to be in the league right now. Everton continue to underwhelm but a well-earned point against their local rivals will give them a lot of encouragement. VAR denied them a win but a lot of positives overall. Speaking of VAR, once again robbing a team of well-deserved points. West Ham should have brought something back from Chelsea but a ridiculous call denied them. West Ham have the better team but Everton seem to be grinding points out at the moment.
