Man City vs Brentford

Pintsized

With Norway not featuring in the WC2022, Erling Haaland will be deadset on unleashing his frustrations against a leaky Brentford defence. Brentford’s inability to convert draws to wins against the teams in the lower half of the table will cause headaches after Christmas.

Prediction: 3-0

Ryan

Last weekend was a tougher test than expected for City against Fulham. A last minute penalty spared their blushes despite being down to 10 men for most of the match. It would be highly unlikely to see history repeat itself twice here with a low on confidence Brentford. They had to settle for a point against lowly Forest and without Ivan Toney, lack that finishing required at this level. Home win to take top spot albeit temporarily.

Prediction: 4-0

Steviano

Prediction: 4-1

Liverpool vs Southampton

Pintsized

For the fourth or fifth time this season, we all ask, are Liverpool back to form again? Major changes are occurring at the top with the club up for sale, but problems on the pitch this season are more related to a lack of investment over the summer. From Luton with love, Nathan Jones takes the reins at a youthful Southampton side.

Prediction: 1-1

Ryan

Some years ago, this would have been Liverpool vs Liverpool B with the amount of transfer business between the two. Nowadays, Southampton don’t have too much to offer Liverpool from their squad. They need to worry about not getting pummelled by Newcastle again. I think Nathan Jones will do a good job with the Saints, he’s used to working with Championship level teams. Liverpool pulled a big victory out against Spurs although alongside Chelsea, are probably the easiest opponents in the Top 6/7 right now. Logic would state a home win but I’m backing a new manager bounce to stall Liverpool’s comeback.

Bournemouth vs Everton

Pintsized

Shipping 11 goals in the last four League games has been a sobering slap in the face for Bournemouth. An EFL Cup 4-1 battering of Everton, however, has placed all the pressure on Frank Lampard to freshen up his low block. Consecutive losses to Bournemouth will raise ‘chopping block’ chatter over the Christmas period.

Prediction: 1-0

Ryan

What do you get when you have two out of form teams clash in a moody lower half affair? A very likely draw where both clubs are happy. Bournemouth once again contrived to shoot themselves in the foot by blowing yet another lead, this time at Leeds in a significant game. Everton didn’t come close to reaching anything resembling a lead in a disappointing display against Leicester. With both sides under pressure, 1 point is better than none before the break.

West Ham vs Leicester City

Pintsized

The loss to Palace, in large part, stems from David Moyes’ bizarre decision to sub off Said Benrahma. The Scotsman is blessed with a wealth of talent yet has not yet cracked the perfect formula. Brendan Rodgers has truly turned around Leicester’s fortunes. Newboy, Wes Fout, has offered enough resistance at the back for the Foxes’ lethal attack to out-score opponents.

Prediction: 1-3

Ryan

The Hammers will mightily disappointed not to have taken anything from their game against Crystal Palace with last minute heartbreak the order of the day there. Leicester meanwhile are on an upturn in form and performance with a 2-1 win away at Everton giving the Foxes a lot to be happy about. This could be a good watch with every result a possibility. In that instance, best going down the middle.

Tottenham vs Leeds United

Pintsized

Antonio Conte appears hellbent on running Harry Kane into the ground before Qatar – a final act of Italian spite after failing to qualify? Without Heung-min Son, Spurs’ attack has placed too much responsibility on Kane as the lone striker. Leeds have clutched back-to-back last-gasp wins, speaking to the belief that Jesse Marsch has instilled in the changing room.

Prediction: 0-0

Ryan

I said that Spurs are not a very good team and was proven right again after they fell to yet another Top 6/7 side in Liverpool. A depleted attack with a knackered Kane is not a recipe for success but as long as Conte has his defence, that’s all that matters. Leeds are on a high after a thrilling comeback against Bournemouth last time out. With their confidence high, they’ll come out all guns blazing. I expect Spurs to grind out a boring win but I wouldn’t be surprised if Leeds are the unwanted banana skin this weekend.

Nottm Forest vs Crystal Palace

Pintsized

Forest isn’t dead just yet! A 2-0 victory over Spurs in the mid-week, earning a clean sheet with 10 ten men for the final 15′, sparks a mini-return to form for the Midlanders. Michael Olise is a baller for Palace, taking much of the limelight away from their superstar, Wilfried Zaha.

Prediction: 2-2

Ryan

Patrick Vieira was the one to break the curse of the draw at West Ham by stealing a victory at the death. They have more quality than you’d think and they’ll need that guile to break down a stubborn defensive play style of Forest. They don’t necessarily win a lot but they’re picking up random points here and there when least expected, including last week against Brentford. I fancy their chances to repeat this trick against an inconsistent Palace.

Newcastle vs Chelsea

Pintsized

A match that Chelsea really would have preferred to occur after recuperating over the World Cup period. Newcastle is in phenomenal form, conceding the joint-least goals (11) in the EPL. Considering Chelsea’s struggles in the final third, it’s difficult to see much for the strange strike partnership of Aubameyang and Raheem Sterling.

Prediction: 1-1

Ryan

If I’ve said it about Spurs, I’ll say it about Chelsea – they’re not a very good side. I like Potter but he has serious work to do. They were outclassed by Arsenal and didn’t come close to threatening their opponents. Things don’t get easier with a tough trip to St James Park. Newcastle are in the Top 4 and they probably deserve to be there. A strong win at Southampton keeps their momentum flowing and they’ll be confident enough to maintain their winning streak here.

Wolves vs Arsenal

Pintsized

A mid-week Carabao Cup win against Leeds breaks a worrying slump for Wolves, but scoring just one goal (in the 85′, too) once again exhibits their vital need for a striker. The Diego Costa red card for a headbutt on Ben Mee hasn’t helped matters either. It would be very Arsenal-like to drop points against a damp squib of a team, but it ain’t happening chief.

Prediction: 0-3

Ryan

Wolves may have a new manager but he’s not a part of the club just yet and there was a lack of new manager bounce against Brighton when they fell to a last minute winner. A game against league leaders Arsenal is not what they wanted to end the first part of their season on. Definitely not after they were convincing winners away at Stamford Bridge. Is it now time to consider Arsenal as potential title challengers? Another win will only fuel such opinions.

Brighton vs Aston Villa

Pintsized

Slapping the Arsenal second team on Wednesday earned Roberto De Zerbi his third win in a row. The manner in which Aston Villa fell apart in the second half to Manchester United suggests Brighton may hold onto their top-6 spot over Christmas. Side note, Leon Bailey really should receive a retrospective ban for lashing out at Lisandro Martinez.

Prediction: 2-0

Ryan

Speaking of Brighton, they’ll be happy to take a last minute win, especially when it’s away from home. They really are an underrated unit. Speaking of underrated, Unai Emery began his return to the Premier League with an impressive win over Man United. They looked like a completely different team to the start of the season and deserved everything they got. However, teams like Villa normally play their ‘cup final’ against United and then have no energy for the next game. This will be the case against a classy Seagulls side.

Steviano

Fulham vs Manchester United

Pintsized

The return of Nathaniel Chalobah after dropping an 8′ red-card clanger against Newcastle? Scceeeenes! United’s defensive woes will be plastered over with Martinez replacing Sir Harold Maguire. Marcus Rashford is in firey form – perfect news for all England fans.

Prediction: 2-3

Ryan

As a United fan, I have a bad feeling about this game. Saying this at the start of the season would have been laughable but Fulham have exceeded expectations. Yes they lost against City away but it took a last minute penalty to seal their inevitable fate. They’ll be incredibly confident against a United side who suffered their first defeat in a while.

It wasn’t that they lost but how pathetic their display was at Villa Park which is worrying. Inconsistencies are to be expected and I see this being another frustrating day for Ten Haag who will be happy to get some of his squad back over the World Cup.
