Premier League Week 10: Predictions, Odds and Results

Pintsized Background

Premier League Week 10 is going to have to produce something quite magical if it wishes to top last weekend. A 9-goal Manchester derby, five matches with 4+ goals, and three red cards across a wild weekend of football.

The pick of the weekend has to be Sunday’s Arsenal and Liverpool clash. A crossroads match between the League’s surprise front-runners and a slumbering giant. Elsewhere, Potter will have to work around fresh injury troubles to kickstart his reign at Chelsea.

Premier League Week 10
Saturday, 8 October 2022

Newcastle vs Brentford

Pintsized

Newcastle is flying under the radar despite their megabuck owners. Five draws out of eight played tends to keep the media limelight of your club, to be fair. A fit Callum Wilson will go a long way in capturing three points for the Geordies. Brentford still looks shakey after the spanking from Arsenal, but a team led by Bryan Mbeumo and Ivan Toney can only be held back for so long.

Prediction: 1-1

Ryan

Newcastle got back to winning ways with a demolition job of 10 man Fulham whilst Brentford had difficulties scoring against another promoted opponent in Bournemouth. This seems like a somewhat difficult match to predict but I’ll go with momentum continuing for the home side.

Prediction: 2-1

Steviano

Only a point separates the two teams which is a testament to the Bees recruitment yet again – the Toon are clearly a better squad now and will be expecting to push on again – narrow home win.

Prediction: 2-1

Bournemouth vs Leicester City

Pintsized

Bournemouth may be sat atop a plentiful 9 points, but points will start to become hard to come by in the lead-up to January. Leicester’s 4-0 hammering of Forest took some heat off Brendan Rodger’s shoulders, but one swallow doesn’t make a summer. Leicester’s goal-scoring has never been in doubt this season. Defensively, however, a clean sheet repeat is required before much stock can be put behind Leicester’s recovery.

Prediction: 1-2

Ryan

Newsflash – the Foxes finally won a game. They did it in style against a struggling Nottingham Forest. Now they move on to the former Championship dwellers Bournemouth who somehow continue to defy logic and pick up points with caretaker Gary O’Neill. It may be foolhardy to bet against the miracle but Leicester should feel confident to maintain their level of scoring here.

Prediction: 0-2

Steviano

The foxes finally got a win some much needed points against Forest last time out but there is still a lot of work to do.  The Cherries are unbeaten in 4 games and this has draw written all over it for me.

Manchester City vs Southampton

Pintsized

Last season, Southampton proved a real boogey team for the Citizens. With two draws and limiting City to just one goal, it would take a miracle for such a feat to be repeated in the 2022/2023 campaign. Haaland continues to make a mockery of the league, even with Armel Bella-Kotchap’s immediate impact at just 20 years old.

Prediction: 3-1

Ryan

Despite the threat of Arsenal, it seems fairly clear who the Premier League champions will be this season. Especially with their star striker blowing everyone away in the derby last week. Their next victims are Southampton who lost at home to Everton. That’s all you need to know about this one. Yes the Saints proved a frustration for City last season but it’s not going to happen again.

Prediction: 5-0

Steviano

Three defeats on the bounce has put more pressure on Hassenhutl so he will be delighted to take his team to the Etihaaland – City are starting to play to their potential now which is worrying for all and this should be 3 more points.

Prediction: 5-1

Chelsea vs Wolves

Pintsized

A 3-0 thrashing over AC Milan during the mid-week will have injected much-needed confidence into a mentally struggling Chelsea squad. Losing Fofana creates some tactical headaches for Potter, but Aubameyang’s ability to find the net in consecutive games temporarily solves the Blues’ toothlessness. Without Bruno Lage at the helm, Wolves are an unknown quantity, but it is difficult to see the West Midlanders keeping their defensive fortitude at the back.

Prediction: 2-0

Ryan

Another one bites the dust. Bruno Lage is the latest manager to face the axe after a poor start to the season. It looks like Wolves will stick with the Iberian theme when it comes to their staff. Speaking of new managers, Graham Potter is still unbeaten for the time being without being too impressive. A last minute winner against Crystal Palace was more important than impressive. Expect more of the same here.

Prediction: 1-0

Steviano

Could it be a fantasy return to the Bridge for Diego Costa ….. No!   Wolves have no cutting edge in the final third to match their overall play and Potter will look to build on a good win against Milan in mid week.

Prediction: 3-1

Brighton vs Tottenham

Pintsized

Roberto De Zerbi had big shoes to fill so soon after Potter’s shock departure, but the Italian stepped up to the mark with a thrilling 3-3 draw at Anfield. Leonardo Trossard has been on fire this year, greedily hoovering up the scraps that Danny Welbeck offers. Spurs will be bitterly disappointed to have lost emphatically to their North London rivals, but a silly red card for Emerson Royal damned the Spud army.

Prediction: 1-1

Ryan

If you wanted an example of punching above your weight, Brighton are exactly that. They more than held their own at Anfield with a 3-3 draw and with a new, unproven manager. Their next challenge is another Top 6 team who are also short on confidence following a derby defeat at Arsenal. Going down to 10 men sealed that result but they were second best throughout that match. A slow start here will cost them points and I predict that to happen.

Prediction: 2-2

Steviano

Brighton narrowly missed out on 3 points at Anfield whilst Spurs were mauled at Arsenal last time out – expect a reaction from Conte who wont settle for a repeat performance

Prediction: 1-2

Premier League Week 10
Sunday, 9 October 2022

West Ham vs Fulham

Pintsized

Classic David Moyes. When the chips had begun to stack, the Moyesiah only goes and gets his opposing manager sacked. A sketchy mid-week victory over in Anderlecht lit a further fire behind the Gianluca Scamacca hype train. Aleksandr Mitrovic had better be prepared to have his shins blasted by Kurt Zouma and Craig Dawson.

Prediction: 2-1

Ryan

The Hammers are starting to match their Conference League form in the Premier League with only their second win so far. Having 10 men aside, Fulham suffered their worst result this season so far with a 4-1 drubbing at home to Newcastle. This could be significant as a potential starting point to a downturn in results and West Ham’s quality should highlight this.

Prediction: 2-0

Steviano

The Hammers are starting to pick up in the league and should have enough to beat a Fulham team with a string of injuries

Prediction: 2-1

Crystal Palace vs Leeds United

Pintsized

Palace may be teetering near the relegation zone, but their early string of games came against most of the EPL’s big boys. Vieira has tightened up the defence despite lacking top quality, whilst Zaha is allowed enough freedom and service to consistently threaten in the final third. Leeds is still suffering a hangover from Bielsa’s ‘hot and cold’ form. The main question is whether Patrick Bamford is able to play himself back into form. If so, the Yorkshire outfit has solid foundations to push up the table.

Prediction: 1-2

Ryan

This is the most difficult game to predict this weekend with two volatile teams. Palace were unlucky to go down to Chelsea after a last minute winner from a former loanee broke the Eagles hearts. The away side played out a stinker at home to Villa but managed to pick up a point despite being a man down which is a definite positive. This is a flip a coin outcome and the coin I have has three sides which includes a draw.

Prediction: 1-1

Steviano

Both team are stuttering at the moment – Palace have had some tough fixtures and Leeds are self-destructing – Viera to steady the ship in this one and go level with their opponents

Prediction: 2-1

Arsenal vs Liverpool

Pintsized

Arsenal will be eager to earn their first W over Liverpool since July 2020. The unity between Saliba and Gabriel has allowed Arsenal to overload the wings and suffocate opposition. As to be expected, TAA will be the main channel targetted by Arsenal. Liverpool isn’t to be written off so soon, however. Against Rangers on Wednesday, the Scousers showcased 90 minutes of football that wouldn’t have looked amiss in their success of 2021/22.

Prediction: 2-2

Ryan

Whisper it quietly but Arsenal may actually be the real deal this season. It’s been a while since the home team were flying near the top of the league but a good win in the North London derby has excited the Gunners. They face another big test in a struggling Liverpool who scraped out of Anfield with a point against Brighton.

The root cause of their problems is unknown – loss of Mane, hangover from the end of last season, overall burnout from Klopp’s playing style? It’s all a mystery. In unexpected fashion, Arsenal are the favourites and not playing whipping boys. The times have changed and on this occasion, revenge will be a dish best served cold for the home team.

Prediction: 3-1

Steviano

Arsenal came through the Spurs test and face a Liverpool team low on confidence.  Liverpool will take a more positive approach than Spurs though and will want to get there season back on track with a statement win

Prediction: 2-3

Everton vs Manchester United

Pintsized

A resurgent Everton hosting a United side that has shipped eight goals in two games? This is going to be an ugly war from start to finish. United have to replace Sancho with Rashord on the LW if they want any chance of unlocking Everton’s brutally effective low block. Further, in a sentence that I never thought I would have to type, Casemiro will have to be set on isolating Alex Iwobi – the heartbeat of the Toffees midfield.

Prediction: 0-1

Ryan

This United fan made the big mistake of putting some faith in his side to get a result at City and paid the heavy price. I said that most of this squad is not to be trusted and I was proven right unfortunately. Speaking of trust, it seems that Lampard is slowly but surely gaining that from the Everton fans who witnessed a big away win at Southampton. This has all the makings of a frustrating draw with plenty of shots fired at Pickford’s goal without any finding their way in.

Prediction: 0-0

Steviano

Lampard should be manager of the season if he keeps this Everton squad in mid-table with only 2 points separating the team – United have a fragile confidence, buzzing with 4 wins on the bounce they were smashed in the derby and were poor in Cyprus, they should be winning this game but probably wont

Prediction: 1-1

Notts Forest vs Aston Villa

Pintsized

Fair play to the Forest board for sticking by their vote of confidence and extending Steve Cooper’s contract. It has been a bump return to the top flight for Notts, but an entire squad rebuild over the summer was less than ideal conditions. Cooper can now flex a bit of tactical freedom with the knowledge that he will be tasked with bringing Forest back-up if they are to be relegated.

Prediction: 2-1

Ryan

Normally after a poor run of form, the manager is the scapegoat and gets the boot. After a 4-0 drubbing at previously winless Leicester, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Steve Cooper would be on the dole. Instead, Forest have decided to renew his contract in a bold move which goes against the norm.

This could breed some positivity against an underachieving and underperforming Villa side who failed to take full advantage of a 10 man Leeds outfit. The away team have more quality but seemingly lack the ruthlessness to make the most of it whilst the home side might be in good spirits.

Prediction: 1-0

Steviano

Forest need to find an identity and quick as the losses rack up, it was always going to be difficult for a brand new squad to gel but I can’t see a game plan which is worrying – Villa should take the points but it doesn’t look like being an exciting season for the fans

Prediction: 1-2
