Premier League Matchday 11: Friday, 5 November
Southampton (#14, 11pts) vs Aston Villa (#15, 10pts)
Pintsized
You’d be forgiven for thinking Villa’s superior quality on paper would offer an easy away victory, but investigation under a magnifying glass reveals Dean Smith’s side on a horror four-match slide. Stuffed 4-1 last time out against West Ham, a thoroughly compact Southampton team could once again break a Villa still unable to control matches.
Prediction: 2-1
Ryan
Friday Night Football is always a good way to start the weekend even a blasé game like this. Southampton coming off a good away win at Watford whilst Villa continue their dire form as they were on the end of a home thumping to West Ham. I expect both teams to continue their trends with a comfortable home win.
Prediction: 2-0
Steviano
Injuries to key players are preventing this new look Villa side from gelling and confidence will be low after a 4 game losing streak – losing Ings for this one is a real blow for Villa as he would have a point to prove against his old team. Southampton meanwhile have got a little run of form going now and I expect this to continue.
Prediction: 2-1

Premier League Matchday 11: Saturday, 6 November
Man United (#5, 17pts) vs Man City (#3, 20pts)
Pintsized
Hahaha. I was tempted to leave Ryan and Steviano to go at each other’s throats, but I suppose I can chuck my two cents into the mix. Even with glorified PE teacher, Ole, at the helm – United are a fearsome unit when they turn up fancying it. That much is glaringly obvious when you have CR7 upfront. It would take a miracle, however, for United to keep up with the goal tally that City will run upon United’s injured and disorganized backline. Much will be made of City’s dominance in the middle of the park, but I expect the game will largely boil down to which set of full-backs hit the ground running early.
Prediction: 2-4
Ryan
The Manchester Derby is one that always seems to have implications for both sides whether it’s a title or top 4 race and this will be no different. United dominated Spurs to seemingly keep Ole in his post for another extended period whilst City suffered from the dreaded Palace curse again. Say what you will about Ole but the man seems to get the job done against Pep more often than not. I still don’t trust United that much though and City will want to bounce back quickly. A draw may be a more optimistic view for a United fan but it’s definitely not out of the realms either.
Prediction: 1-1
Steviano
Derbies are always tricky to call and this is no exception. City lack an individual goal scorer of Ronaldo (or Cavani’s) calibre and that has cost them at times this season when missing a host of chances however City’s strength lies in goals throughout the team and the emphasis on teamwork/style of play. United lack a playing identity and rely on individual talents (of which they have many) to win them games. Both defences are weakened with key players missing but City should be too organised for United in this one.
Prediction: 2-3

Brentford (#12, 12pts) vs Norwich (#20, 2pts)
Pintsized
After such a blistering start, a nosedive back to reality was always around the corner for the Bees. A three-loss streak isn’t ideal for squad morale, especially when the last L came at the hands of a struggling Burnley – firing three past Brentford in the process. Thankfully, fellow promotion team from the 2020 class, Norwich, are utterly dreadful. Granted, a couple of draws and a hard-fought loss to Leeds has seen a slight turning of the tide at the bottom of the table. It just feels as though at any moment, Norwich’s defence will disintegrate at the drop of a hat.
Prediction: 3-1
Ryan
Last week marked what was probably Brentford’s worst result and performance in a dire loss against Burnley. Their fans would have taken that at the start of the season to be fair. On the other side, Norwich fans must be thinking about the Championship next season as a loss to Leeds piled the misery on for the Canaries. This is arguably the perfect game for Brentford to bounce back and that’s exactly what they’ll do.
Prediction: 2-0
Steviano
These two came up from the championship together but I expect only one of them to go back down. Norwich have scored the fewest goals (3 in 10!) and conceded the most goals so far this season and that is not likely to get any better against a Brentford team who will be smarting from 3 defeats in a row but with two of those being Chelsea and Leicester I expect that streak to end here.
Prediction: 4-0

Chelsea (#1, 25pts) vs Burnley (#18, 7pts)
Pintsized
A battle between opposing ends of the table, this is a far less clear-cut stomping than would have been presumed last. Dyche lad’s virgin victory against Brentford may see the Clarets take the initiative over a fast-approaching relegation scrap. While Chelsea’s might will likely prove far too much, especially considering their recent record at Stamford Bridge, the score-line won’t quite be Norwich-levels.
Prediction: 3-0
Ryan
Chelsea are in the title race, this cannot be denied anymore despite the pundits wishing for a Liverpool and City two horse race. An easy drubbing against Newcastle continued their hot form. Burnley themselves pulled a big win out of the hat against a game Brentford. Home win on the cards to keep Chelsea top of the league before another international break.
Prediction: 3-0
Steviano
Burnley finally got their first win of the season last time out which will give them confidence however going to the Bridge in the next game will not. Chelsea are continuing to score without Lukaku and Werner and will have to much quality for Burnley.
Prediction: 3-1

Crystal Palace (#13, 12pts) vs Wolves (#7, 16pts)
Pintsized
It may only have been Watford, but Vieira continues to impress with the short deck of talent at his disposal. A large part of Palace’s success has stemmed from Conor Gallagher’s ridiculous form, and it doesn’t appear to be slowing any time soon. Wolves, on the other hand, look to have regained the fearsome bite they temporarily lost following Nuno’s abrupt departure. An even banger that could slide either way.
Prediction: 1-1
Ryan
Fair play to Patrick Vieira as he’s definitely proven to be more than the next Frank De Boer at Palace especially with an unexpected brilliant win against City. Wolves themselves are looking like a threat again, finding the target against a typically stubborn Everton for 3 points. I worry how much the victory for Palace last week has taken out of them and feel that Wolves could take advantage of this.
Prediction: 0-1
Steviano
Palace pulled off the shock of the weekend winning at City with a strong performance and they will need to work hard to follow that up against a Wolves team who have won four of their last five games. It feels like both teams are destined for mid-table safety and a point each and continued unbeaten runs may be acceptable all round.
Prediction: 2-2

Brighton (#8, 16pts) vs Newcastle (#19, 4pts)
Pintsized
Brighton may have slid down to eighth, but that was off the back of a resurgent second half to steal a point from Anfield. Newcastle will continue to flounder until January where the blank cheque can be cashed in. In the meantime, the media will continue to throw Eddie Howe’s name around like a pigskin.
Prediction: 2-1
Ryan
Football hipsters are feeling smug right now basking in the glow of Potterball and a comeback draw at Anfield only fuels the fire there. Newcastle can’t wait for January to come but they really need to have more points on the board before this. It was unlikely that they’d ever get anything against Chelsea but they may as well have forfeited the match. Their fortunes won’t change that much and Brighton will charge on.
Prediction: 3-1
Steviano
Neither side are in sparking form without a win in 5 games however the calibre of the Seagulls opposition has been somewhat stringer than the Toons and they should return to form against the rudderless Geordies. Having been turned down by numerous managers it looks like Newcastle will settle for Eddie Howe who is unlikely to excite the fans and I expect would be a short term replacement until the owners can get a “name” manager. New manager or not in place Brighton to return to winning ways.
Prediction: 2-1

Premier League Matchday 11: Sunday, 7 November
Arsenal (#6, 17pts) vs Watford (#16, 10pts)
Pintsized
Arteta for Manager of the Year? Never in doubt, lads. The gamble on continued gametime for Emile Smith-Rowe seems to have paid off, despite ridiculous claims Southgate’s England will suffer without the prospect. The book is yet to be written on Ranieri’s, Watford, but I expect the Championship squad will roll over under sustained Gunner’s pressure.
Prediction: 2-0
Ryan
Things are looking Milhouse for Arsenal who continued their winning ways in impressive fashion against Leicester. The bipolar Watford came to play as they followed a crazy win with a boring loss to Southampton. There won’t be an extreme swing like that again this weekend as Arsenal should maintain their positive run here.
Prediction: 3-0
Steviano
Big win for Arsenal last time out at Leicester whilst Watford returned to their struggles. Ranieri will need to wait until January to address Watford’s lack of quality and I don’t expect that he will be able to stop a youthful Gunners team on a roll again under Arteta.
Prediction: 4-1

Everton (#10, 14pts) vs Spurs (#9, 15pts)
Pintsized
Just the eight goals conceded by Rafa’s men in the last three games. While Spurs have hardly proven prolific in front of goal this season (netting just 9 times in the PL), newly appointed, Antonio Conte, will be sure to turn their attack around immediately. With the Toffee’s still stacking out their injury list, Conte should oversee a winning return to the Premier League.
Prediction: 1-3
Ryan
Two teams who are completely out of form for different reasons. Injuries to key players have hampered Everton as they limped to a loss against Wolves. Spurs is a toxic environment overall but the arrival of Antonio Conte should be interesting to say the least. It will take time for the away team to get used to a new system but I can see a new manager bounce kicking in for Spurs here.
Prediction: 1-2
Steviano
Early season optimism is fading quickly at Everton after a string of poor results and the continued absence of Calvert-Lewin and Doucoure. Spurs are buoyed by the appointment of serial winner Conte although unlike at Chelsea he is not inheriting a serial winning squad. That said I expect the new manager bounce to be back in effect and grumbles about Rafa to increase.
Prediction: 1-2

Leeds (#17, 10pts) vs Leicester (#11, 14pts)
Pintsized
Brendan Rodgers just cannot nail down a solid defensive display. Leicester’s goal-scoring has been fine, but their inability to secure clean sheets sees everybody’s second team lingering awkwardly in the middle of the table. After Leeds held on to a close victory at Carrow Road, the Yorkies could string together a run of form on the back of Raphinha’s excellence. Expecting a goal-fest.
Prediction: 1-3
Ryan
I like the looks of this game, it could potentially be very exciting and end to end. Leeds picked up their second win of the season against a rock bottom Norwich although not in overly convincing fashion. Leicester completely flopped against a firing Arsenal. Any result would be completely understandable so in typical fashion here, I’ll go for the draw.
Prediction: 2-2
Steviano
With two fully fit squads this would be a cracker but both have suffered badly with injuries with mid/bottom table consequences resulting. Leeds are still missing Bamford and will need Raphinha to have a stellar day to take all three points here. Hard fought draw for me.
Prediction: 2-2

West Ham (#4, 20pts) vs Liverpool (#2, 22pts)
Pintsized
Moyes continues to win, I continue to assert that we are in fact MASSIVE. I’ll enjoy the last week of shouting it from the rooftops, however, as Liverpool are more than likely to nuke the Olympic Stadium. The Hammers may have snook past City in the Carabao Cup, but a huge chunk of luck was necessary to keep the Citizens from registering on the scoreboard. Liverpool’s ferocious attack and Mo Salah’s blistering form will prevent lightning from striking twice again.
Prediction: 1-3
Ryan
Is this a big Top 4 game? I don’t see why not with West Ham flying at the moment with a 4-1 away win at Villa proving this point. Liverpool somehow managed to snatch a draw from the jaws of victory against Brighton at home which proved not to be the biggest surprise of the weekend strangely enough. As much as I can see Liverpool bouncing back impressively, David Moyes has got his boys playing some good stuff and showing great character overall. The latter of which will give Jurgen Klopp some nightmares and something to think about.
Prediction: 1-1
Steviano
The heart says hammers the head says reds to prevail. West Ham are on a purple patch of form which has propelled them into the top 4 and Moyes has made it clear that’s where he wants to stay. Liverpool are a little inconsistent currently but top the goals scored chart and will be keen to add to that.
Prediction: 1-2
