2021/22 Premier League Matchday 10: Predictions

Pintsized Background

A spooky special weekend of Halloween football arrives with a few interesting questions. Can Ole keep the one last crumb of faith that only the die-hard United fans reserve for their former club hero? Will Newcastle overcome Chelsea in the El Cashico? Have Everton recovered to the extent where they are willing to show their face in public, after their spanking to Watford?

Premier League Matchday 10: Saturday, 30 October

Leicester (#9, 14pts) vs Arsenal (#10, 14pts)

Pintsized

Not to pour scorn on Arsenal’s performance last weekend, but Aston Villa put up almost no resistance to the Gunner’s free-flowing attack. Leicester will offer a far tougher defence to crack, matching Arsenal’s soon-to-be Hall of Fame trio of Ramsdale, White and Gabriel. Expecting a match devoid of entertainment.

Prediction: 1-0

Ryan

Two teams going into the lunchtime kick off with wins under their belt in their last matches. Leicester away at Brentford and Arsenal at home to Villa. This one always seems unpredictable but I’ll go with the home team on this occasion.

Prediction: 3-1

Steviano

Two teams on good unbeaten runs of form should make for a good game.  Vardy should return for the Foxes and this might be the difference between the two teams although Arsenal are proving more resilient of late and could be good value for a draw.

Prediction: 3-2

Watford (#14, 10pts) vs Southampton (#16, 8pts)

Pintsized

Ok, so I believe we can all agree, Watford are a ‘mixed bag’ under Ranieri. After spanking Everton by five goals at Goodison Park, Watford’s firepower has been legitimised after showing sparks throughout the early season. Southampton have proven to be a sleeper team in 21/22. They may not score much, but they’re bloody good at creating chances – at some point, they have to go in.

Prediction: 1-2

Ryan

Watford went from conceding 5 against one Scouse team to scoring 5 against the other. Inexplicable wouldn’t begin to describe it. Southampton meanwhile picked up yet another draw, this time against Burnley. Whilst it seems unlikely that Watford will score 5, I’ll go with the home win here to continue their winning form.

Prediction: 2-1

Steviano

What happened last weekend – who are the real Ranieri Watford the shambles that faced the red half of Liverpool or the team that scored four goals in the final 13 minutes against the blue half.   Southampton are draw specialists this season and I fancy them to try to make this a relative snorefest.

Liverpool (#2, 21pts) vs Brighton (#5, 15pts)

Pintsized

Perhaps it is my love of Potter, but my heart is crying out for the draw. Brighton can drag opponents into tight-scoring affairs, effectively capping the overwhelming momentum of Liverpool’s attack. After thumping United 5-0 at Old Trafford, Klopp’s men just seem to be on another planet in terms of form, however.

Prediction: 2-0

Ryan

As a United fan, I’d rather not speak about what happened on Sunday but we were beaten by a much better team. Brighton predictably got turned over by the reigning champions without any real challenge. I expect more of the same at Anfield.

Prediction: 3-0

Steviano

Without a win in their last four games Brighton go to Anfield to face a confident Liverpool team who will still be smiling from their demolition of United last week.  This is not one that Potter’s men would expect to come away with points from and I can’t see an upset here.

Prediction: 3-0

Newcastle (#19, 4pts) vs Chelsea (#1, 22pts)

Pintsized

Goal-fest. You heard it here first, folks. Goal-fest. Chelsea may be the leading Premier League defence, but Newcastle’s pulsating attack will tear up the stats. Sure, I still expect Tuchel’s men to win, but this could well be a war knowing a packed St James Park will be buoyed by Bruce’s departure.

Prediction: 2-3

Ryan

Did Newcastle get a win last time? Did they hell but at least they got a point in what would prove to be the last game for Steve Bruce. Chelsea went on a scoring spree against a pathetic and doomed Norwich. Again I expect a similar result with no bounce back from a new/caretaker manager here.

Prediction: 1-4

Steviano

Battle of the bank balances “El Cashico” as new new money takes on old new money.  Chelsea are still missing Lukaku and Werner although that didn’t stop them putting seven past the hapless canaries last week.  Newcastle will be sterner opposition but even without the strikers Chelsea should keep their momentum going.

Prediction: 1-2

Man City (#3, 20pts) vs Crystal Palace (#15, 9pts)

Pintsized

I appreciate the work Vieira is doing with Palace, and the former City man may spring a surprise similar to his Emirates trip, but it’s unlikely. City’s total domination of possession will starve Palace’s youngsters of the time they need to apply themselves. A potentially embarrassing scoreline is imminent.

Prediction: 4-0

Ryan

City are looking sharp despite a lack of striker and continued their charge for another title with an impressive victory at a flying Brighton. Palace meanwhile probably missed a golden opportunity for 3 points against a disoriented Newcastle. City should win this one relatively comfortably despite a somewhat weird curse with the Eagles at home.

Prediction: 3-1

Steviano

Viera returns to the club where he helped to end the trophyless drought as part of City’s FA Cup winning 2011 team with his young Eagles squad who have surprised a lot of people with their determined start to the season.  City should have too much quality for them but I expect a close game.

Prediction: 2-0

Burnley (#18, 4pts) vs Brentford (#12, 12pts)

Pintsized

Brentford remain on hot form, but Burnley away is the typical banana skin that recently promoted teams fall upon. Obviously, Dyche will be unhappy with the total points accumulated so far. Yet the performances on the pitch have been somewhat comforting. Toney and Mbuemo may have torn apart the more technical defences so far, but they will have to compete with a Tarkowski leg snapping masterclass on Saturday.

Prediction: 0-0

Ryan

Burnley picked up another point away against Southampton although they do need a win sooner rather than later. Brentford could consider themselves unlucky again against a big team mate with a narrow loss to Leicester. For some reason, my gut is telling me that this has a draw written all over it and I’ll go with that.

Prediction: 1-1

Steviano

Back to back defeats might suggest that the Bees strong start to the season was over but these were by the odd goal against an improving Leicester and table leaders Chelsea so I don’t expect their confidence will be dented.  Burnley are still looking for their first win but I think they will succumb to the Bees attacking football  in this one.

Prediction: 1-2

They may have tasted defeat last time out, but this doesn't appear to be a Brentford side who will keel over in response | Premier league Matchday 10 Predictions

Spurs (#6, 15pts) vs Man United (#7, 14pts)

Pintsized

It’s time for Ole to go. He has managed to instil the ‘classic United’ culture and atmosphere back into the sleeping giant, but the lack of top-level experience is starting to show. Spurs haven’t proven to be killers by any stretch of the imagination, but they also aren’t firing at full strength. If Ole cannot build an effective strikeforce out of the pieces he has, including CRISTIANO RONALDO, he needs the chop.

Prediction: 2-1

Ryan

Two teams coming off brutal and embarrassing losses against their rivals. Spurs losing to an in-form West Ham away is not a big issue, especially not 1-0. I would have said the same thing about United at home in these circumstances but that 5-0 is probably the worst result in a long time if not all time in the club history. I have no confidence with United at all which is really sad and that’s why I’m going with a narrow Spurs win despite how bad they are too.

Prediction: 1-0

Steviano

Ole will need a major reaction after the embarrassing display last weekend which has heaped the pressure on him. Spurs are still not firing as a team although Kane has scored at last.  I fancy United’s individual stars to make the difference in this one but don’t expect that it will alleviate the pressure on Ole much.

Norwich (#20, 2pts) vs Leeds (#17, 7pts)

Pintsized

A winnable match for Norwich on paper but they are just so woeful to watch that it’ll be hard to give Norwich the nod once this season. Leeds’ open play may create an entertaining match with holes for Pukki to explore, but Bielsa’s men are more likely to snatch a vital win.

Prediction: 1-3

Ryan

How do you comeback from a brutal 7-0 whopping? Regardless of who delivered it, that is unacceptable of a Premiership team. Leeds only just scraped a point against a solid Wolves outfit with a late penalty. As bad as Norwich are they won’t end the season winless and with a very unpredictable and under par Leeds team, this could be their shot to pick up a win.

Prediction: 2-1

Steviano

Leeds are making a fool of me every week but this must be the one I get right surely.   Last season’s Leeds would make mincemeat of a Norwich team that can’t defend and can’t score so it’s only injuries that give the Canaries any hope here.

Prediction: 1-3

Aston Villa (#13, 10pts) vs West Ham (#4, 17pts)

Pintsized

Massive. West Ham are massive. While I still struggle to back the team that has caused me great heartache over the years, it appears that Moyes is truly the saviour this time. Aston Villa are only a three-game run away from emerging as a top-8 team, but until then, the Irons will continue to march on.

Prediction: 1-2

Ryan

Two teams sharing the same colours but definitely not the same form. Villa were disappointing against an unimpressive Arsenal side whilst West Ham were the polar opposite against their rivals with a big 3 points at home. This could be a cracking watch, almost understated if you will. It’s a difficult one to call so I’ll go down the line here.

Prediction: 2-2

Steviano

West Ham are rolling again with four wins on the bounce albeit the last one on a penalty shootout.  Villa followed their win at OT with three successive defeats and the Hammer’s confidence may take them over the line in this one.

Premier League Matchday 10: Monday, 1 November

Wolves (#11, 13pts) vs Everton (#8, 14pts)

Pintsized

Wolves continue to struggle to find the back of the net, but they are also playing some of the most attractive football in the league. There is something about the rag-tag squad, lacking an overall identity, that is quite wholesome in a usually predictable league. Rafa may well have beaten Jordan Pickford to death after last week’s showing. The Toffee’s won’t be conceding embarrassing scorelines again this weekend, but they will also struggle to create much with Rondon up top.

Prediction: 1-0

Ryan

Wolves were unlucky not to come home with 3 points against a Leeds side needing a penalty to rescue something. Everton meanwhile were thoroughly shocked and embarrassed at home to a volatile Watford side who decided to turn up at Goodison Park. This is a tough one to call but based on form, home advantage should take 3 points to Molineux.

Prediction: 2-2

Steviano

Wolves sit a point behind in Everton on mid-table after a four match unbeaten run whilst Everton come off the back of a bizarre home defeat to Watford.  Rafa will not be happy and will look to put that right on Monday night but might need to settle for an uneventful point.

Prediction: 1-1
