Queensberry Promotions prospects, Aloys Junior and Tommy Fletcher, clashed unexpectedly at the Hamzah Sheeraz vs Liam Williams weigh-ins ahead of Saturday night’s event at the Copper Box Arena, London.
Despite the cruiserweight pair facing different opponents at the weekend, both prospects engaged in a fiery exchange of words ahead of the the ceremonial weigh-ins and required staff to separate them.
Speaking with Queensberry analyst, Dev Sahni, after the fracas, the towering 6’7″ Fletcher suggested that it was Junior who had sparked the confrontation.
“He just came up to me like he was going to do something,” Fletcher said, “he kissed his teeth like he was going to do something.”
A potential source for the conflict could have come from in-house stirring, as Sahni had raised the prospect of a future fight between the pair earlier in the day, to which Junior declared himself the bigger puncher.
“Forget who is the biggest puncher.” Fletcher added. “It doesn’t matter, you have to know how to box in this game. I am very confident that I am taller than him, I have longer range and I am a better boxer. If he thinks he’s a bigger puncher then so what, I am going to back myself, as I am sure he will – but I am very confident in my power and my record speaks for itself.”
Junior, a training partner of former heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua, continued jibe his cruiserweight rival after the weigh-ins.
“In terms of performances, come on now, let’s be real, I have had better performances (in the ring),” he sniped.
The 20-year-old promised another “explosive knockout” tomorrow night against Milosav Savic, aiming to earn his sixth stoppage victory in a row since his debut loss in November 2021.
Meanwhile, Fletcher will look to extend his perfect professional record to seven victories with a statement performance against Alvaro Terrero.
