Premier League Matchday 7: Saturday, 2 October
Man United (#4, 13pts) vs Everton (#5, 13pts)
Pintsized
There are two ways to approach United’s victory mid-week. On the one hand, United’s defence was a shambles and only a special performance by De Gea saved an embarrassing scoreline. On the flip side, a last-minute comeback win against last year’s Europe League nemesis and to save their Champions League hopes – surely that’s a decent morale boost. No Harry Maguire matches Everton’s lack of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and I’m expecting Ole to be bailed out by Ronaldo against the wily old Rafa.
Prediction: 2-1
Ryan
Ole’s Reds have been far from convincing in recent performances. Say what you like about whether Villa’s goal should have stood or the fact that Bruno’s penalty was unnaturally awful, you can’t rely on individual brilliance forever. Definitely not against a compact Everton with a fired up Rafa who bowled over Norwich in comfortable fashion. Despite being defensively solid, the away team are missing some key players which will swing the balance towards the home team. It won’t be pretty though.
Prediction: 2-1
Steviano
Both teams are level on points after last week’s surprise home defeat for United by Villa. United should have too much for Everton though who are without talisman Richarlison and main striker Calvert-Lewin. Rafa will set the team up not to lose but will struggle for answers if they fall behind.
Prediction: 2-0

Burnley (#19, 2pts) vs Norwich (#20, 0pts)
Pintsizedeices
Norwich are truly in hell at the moment. Aside from the odd spark of genuine creativity, or Pukki class in front of goal, the Canaries have looked a far cry from even a Championship team. Burnley find themselves in equally dire straights in the table, but their performances have been far more pleasing. Burnley love an early lead while I struggle to see Norwich piercing the defence at Turf Moor.
Prediction: 3-1
Ryan
This is the definition of an ugly relegation scrap. Burnley will need to pick up wins soon but will be happy with a very impressive point away at Leicester, definitely more than expected. Norwich will need to pick up points soon (let alone wins) to stop their ugly trend of losses this season. They genuinely look doomed and a tough away day at Burnley won’t change their fortunes either.
Prediction: 2-1
Steviano
Surely this time for Dyche’s clarets to get their first win of the season against the most consistent team in the league so far – 2 goals for the Canaries in 6 games will be the key to their rapid return to the championship as they simply lack quality upfront. Burnley will be hoping for a rapid return for Cornet who looks capable of adding a new dynamic to the team but should still be too strong for Norwich.
Prediction: 2-0
Chelsea (#3, 13pts) vs Southampton (#16, 4pts)
Pintsized
Are cracks starting to show in Chelsea’s armour? Probably not, but a string of 1-0 defeats against City and Juventus have dampened the celebratory mood which opened their campaign. Southampton have been far stronger than most have given credit this season, but their inability to crack a flakey Wolves defence at home is a worry. The Blues have too much quality not to bounce back in style.
Prediction: 2-0
Ryan
A big match that didn’t go in their favour, City proved to be too much of a hurdle for Chelsea on this occasion with Lukaku going missing once again in an important match. The streak of draws finally came to an end for Southampton but in the wrong way with a very average loss to Wolves. Southampton have good form when it comes to surprising results against top teams but with Tuchel surely looking for a bounce back performance, this shouldn’t be the case here.
Prediction: 2-0
Steviano
Back to back defeats for the European champions is not a cause for concern at this stage and the expected return of Mount provides some much needed central creativity for the Blues. Southampton ended a run of 4 consecutive draws (including one at Man City) with home defeat to Wolves last time out and I can’t see them registering their first win of the season here.
Prediction: 3-0

Leeds (#18, 3pts) vs Watford (#12, 7pts)
Pintsized
Second season woes for Leeds continue as they search for their first EPL win of 21/22. The rampant goal-scoring isn’t ferocious enough to keep up with their leaky defence. Something has to change, ideally both sides of the game. Watford’s attack has been surprisingly lethal for a newly promoted side, but do they have the quality to manage against Leed’s exhausting man to man tactics?
Prediction: 3-1
Ryan
This is possibly the most difficult game to predict this weekend as both teams are like Allsorts – you don’t know what you’ll get. After a strong start to their last game, Leeds found themselves on the losing end of a comeback against West Ham. Watford gained a point against Newcastle which should keep the fans happy at the moment. Although this could be a great opportunity for Leeds to pick up their first win, I’ll throw a curveball and go with a draw.
Prediction: 1-1
Steviano
Leeds are another team suffering with injuries to key players from Bamford to Ayling and this may allow Watford to sneak another point building on their uninspiring draw with Newcastle and the obligatory victory over Norwich.
Prediction: 1-1

Wolves (#14, 6pts) vs Newcastle (#17, 3pts)
Pintsized
Wolves are eeking back into the win column but their performances have been anything other than stellar. When your goalkeeper provides the assist for your sole goal last weekend, there’s reason to fear. Newcastle continue to flirt with relegation yet they have shown flashes of brilliance throughout the campaign. It’s difficult to see Newcastle continue to squander golden opportunities.
Prediction: 1-1
Ryan
A rollercoaster season continues for Wolves with a big win against a volatile Southampton. Fans will be pleased to see Raul Jimenez on the scoresheet and will hope it gets him going again after a long layoff. Newcastle continue to flounder but picked up a vital away point against Watford. Neither team seem to score that many so the smart bet seems to be the draw here.
Prediction: 1-1
Steviano
Wolves got a creditable win at a struggling Southampton last time out which will boost their confidence against a Newcastle team still without their midfield creator (Shelvey) and their main goal threat (Wilson). It may come down to who plays best Saint-Maxim or Traore to determine the outcome but Wolves at least feel more cohesive than the toxic Toon.
Prediction: 2-0

Brighton (#6, 13pts) vs Arsenal (#10, 9pts)
Pintsized
Pottermania is a fearsome stone once it starts rolling. Brighton may not be top of the table after a last-gasp draw to Palace, but their canny ability to score late will carry on stunning teams. Arsenal have finally coughed and spluttered into first gear. Their youth seem to be clicking now, finding each other with ambitious crosses into the box against Spurs. If Yves Bissouma is back, I reckon it gives Brighton the edge.
Prediction: 1-0
Ryan
This could be an entertaining one. Brighton will be fuelled with adrenaline after a dramatic late equaliser at ‘local’ rivals Crystal Palace continuing their excellent start to the season. Arsenal seem to have found their form as they rinsed their genuinely local rivals Spurs with ease. This is another difficult one to predict as all outcomes would be reasonable so once again, I’ll go down the middle.
Prediction: 2-2
Steviano
From the sublime to the ridiculous for Arsenal who have gone from relegation candidates to top-4 contenders according to Paul Merson – not sure I agree with either assessment on a young squad which will naturally have ups and downs in form. Brighton are still in the top 6 thanks to a last gasp equaliser against Palace which kept their aspirations alive. Neither team are big scorers particularly so think this may be a low score draw especially with Bissouma a doubt for the Seagulls.
Prediction: 1-1

Premier League Matchday 7: Sunday, 3 October
Crystal Palace (#15, 6pts) vs Leicester (#13, 7pts)
Pintsized
Palace regularly amaze the Pintsized team as Vieira works magic with the shoestring budget on offer. Leicester have been thoroughly disappointing across the EPL, domestic and European cups, but Palace cannot afford to spurn chances against the former champions. Vardy is looking deadly again.
Prediction: 1-1
Ryan
After a very credible 94 minutes against Brighton, Crystal Palace bottled it right at the end letting the Seagulls nick a point when they probably shouldn’t have. Leicester will have been disappointed not to win against Burnley at home despite a Vardy ‘hat-trick’. Joking aside, Palace will still be reeling from their missed opportunity which could give a sneaky Leicester the chance to capitalise.
Prediction: 0-1
Steviano
Palace let slip the 3 points at home to Brighton in agonising style and will be desperate to go one better against a Leicester team who still have defensive injury concerns which helps explain their poor start to the season. Not sure either team will be happy with a point but I can see another hard fought draw here.
Prediction: 2-2

Spurs (#11, 9pts) vs Aston Villa (#8, 10pts)
Pintsized
Maybe the Conference League is good for Spurs, it appears to be the only outlet for them to score freely. Nuno’s honeymoon is well expired, while Villa are determined to be considered title contenders. Still, this is a Spurs squad that beat City at home on the opening day – they cannot be written off so early into the season.
Prediction: 1-0
Ryan
Speaking of Spurs, they were taught a brutal lesson at the Emirates which will have done nothing to fan the flames of the Tottenham faithful. Villa will have been ecstatic to have come away with 3 points at Old Trafford controversy aside. They will continue to be a menace this season however as is the case following the ‘cup final’ against Man United, there’s always a come down and Harry Kane will pounce on this opportunity.
Prediction: 3-1
Steviano
Villa will be buoyed by their win at OT last time out whilst Spurs were humiliated by their North London rivals. A Kane mid-week hat-trick last week should at least give him some confidence going into the match but it feels like the Spurs team is an unhappy place at the moment and a Villa team in good form and confidence might just make it unhappier.
Prediction: 1-2

West Ham (#7, 11pts) vs Brentford (#9, 9pts)
Pintsized
West Ham is MASSIVE. Smashing it across all competitions, David Moyesiah unironically needs a statue erecting ASAP. Brentford are a freakishly powerful unit, and I fear for Dawson if he is elected to face off against Ivan Toney. Both teams love to score, so expecting a barn-burner.
Prediction: 2-2
Ryan
This is another difficult one to predict. West Ham produced a brilliant comeback at Elland Road to add another 3 points to their collection. Brentford helped to produce a potential game of the season against Liverpool with a thrilling 3-3 draw. Both teams are flying at the moment and it’ll take a brave man to go with one or the other. I’m not that person though so a draw it is.
Prediction: 1-1
Steviano
This should be an interesting game following on from Brentford’s epic draw with Liverpool and the Hammers back to back wins in the league and a confident display in Europe mid-week. League games following Europe can be tricky especially for smaller squads and that may give Brentford an edge here but I will go for a draw.
Prediction: 1-1

Liverpool (#1, 14pts) vs Man City (#2, 13pts)
Pintsized
Heh. Few games these days rattle the old endorphins than the build-up to this one. A North-West showdown is a tantalising affair with both teams finding their stride. No Alexander-Arnold will dampen the Pool’s attacking threat, but City still lack a main man up top. My brain says low-scoring affair, my heart is crying for a goal-fest. Listen to your heart.
Prediction: 2-3
Ryan
This should go one of two ways: this is game of the season or it’s a big damp squib. Liverpool have come off the back of an end to end thriller against Brentford giving fans a reason to love football again. City meanwhile showed what they’re about with a massive deserved victory away at Chelsea even with a slightly deflected winner. This game will have an impact on the title race and given the significance of this match, it’s easy to see both teams playing it safer than normal here and splitting the points.
Prediction: 0-0
Steviano
Hopefully I will get this one totally wrong but I expect a Liverpool team blunted at Brentford will come out firing against City who put on a masterclass the last time out at the Bridge. An early goal for Liverpool will be an issue for City to deal with and potentially leave them exposed to the Reds counter attacking quality.
Prediction: 3-1
