Premier League Week 11: Predictions, Odds and Results

Premier League Week 11 Pintsized Background

Prepare for Premier League Week 11 as the last period of normality before a manic run of rescheduled matches, cup games and World Cup build-up. With Arsenal still sitting atop the pile, it would be a huge morale boost if the Gunners can enter the WC2022 rest period remaining as the front-runners.

Brentford kicks off EPL Week 11 with a late-night Friday duel against a new-look Brighton. Can the B’s shake off last week’s 5-1 drubbing to Newcastle? The pick of the games this weekend involves a hot’n’cold Liverpool hosting the immense firepower of Manchester City.

Brentford vs Brighton

Pintsized

After a typical Conte 1-0 victory over Brighton, we are still no better placed to guesstimate how De Zerbi fares at the ‘gulls. Brentford has swallowed eight goals in their last three matches, which includes a clean sheet against Bournemouth! A coin-flip.

Prediction: 2-1

Ryan

This is a middle of the road type of match which is definitely a compliment for Brentford who may have been thinking about second season syndrome and a relegation scrap. A 5-1 drubbing at Newcastle didn’t help matters. Meanwhile Brighton played like a relegation threatened team as opposed to the top half achievers they are against Spurs. This could be a good opportunity for the home team to spring a surprise on a not-at-it Seagulls side.

Prediction: 1-0

Steviano

Little to choose between the two teams so I’ll sit on the fence – both well run clubs punching above their weight.

Leicester City vs Crystal Palace

Pintsized

Danny Ward will be the death of the Brendan Rogers era at Leicester City. An abysmal collapse away at Bournemouth leaves the Foxes with a measly four points across nine games. Palace has just the two wins themselves, yet, are visibly levels above Leicester with their showings on the pitch. It’s expecting a lot of Timothy Castagne to handle the pace of Wilfried Zaha and Tyrick Mitchell down the left wing.

Prediction: 1-3

Ryan

So much for a bounce back for Leicester. After beating one recent Championship side, they lost to another in Bournemouth. They can certainly score goals with the creativity of Maddison but everything else seems desperate. Speaking of scoring, Palace can also do that but remain defensively solid as was proven against Leeds last week. Both teams will continue their trends here.

Prediction: 1-2

Steviano

Leicester’s defensive woes (avg almost 3 goals conceded per game) to continue against an Eagles team who aren’t quite at last season’s level but are still performing well

Wolves vs Notts Forest

Pintsized

Well, the Diego Costa panic signing has gone just about as well as everybody expected. Forest picked up a solid point to snap their losing streak, no doubt owing to the board’s renewed confidence in Steve Cooper as gaffer. Expecting an open-ended game that could see Wolves uncharacteristically capitalise on a couple of chances.

Prediction: 2-2

Ryan

Last season seems like a distant memory for Wolves who are in a bit of turmoil with no manager and no structure. Even their defensive wall was shattered against an albeit strong Chelsea outfit. They couldn’t have selected better opponents in Forest who are looking out of their depth a bit despite picking up a big point last time out. With neither team looking to take risks, expect a gritty draw.

Prediction: 0-0

Steviano

Wolves issues are simple – they just don’t score – however the arrived of Forest should change that as they look like the whipping boys this season along with the Foxes.

Prediction: 2-1

Fulham vs Bournemouth

Pintsized

Bernd Leno has a huge opportunity to earn Fulham a much-needed win that will retap into their surprising early form. Bournemouth is still struggling to find the back of the net, with their two goals against Leicester not counting for much these days. If Fulham is to have Mitrovic back in the starting VI, the odds swing wildly back in favour of the home side.

Prediction: 3-1

Ryan

From Championship to Premiership for this fixture although the quality of both squads would have you wondering whether this is legitimate. Fulham were handled with ease by West Ham but Bournemouth had a better time of it in their comeback win against the Foxes. Keep Gary O’Neill as caretaker and watch the Cherries soar. A draw seems a fair prospect here.

Prediction: 1-1

Steviano

Putting the Liverpool game aside Bournemouth have a pretty good defensive record and this should be a close encounter.

Tottenham vs Everton

Pintsized

Now that Everton’s undefeated streak has been snapped, will the Toffees struggle to ride their luck quite so hard? Lampard hasn’t much to work with across the squad. This was most evident when their last-ditch substitutions involved Neal Maupay departing for Solomon Rondon. Spuds remain sitting at #3 but a sketchy run since the 6-2 Leicester drubbing leaves the North London outfit an unsafe horse to back.

Prediction: 2-0

Ryan

Job done for Spurs is a constant of Conte and last week against Brighton was no different. Everton are beginning to show character under Lampard and put up a fight against Man United. This should be more of the same where the quality of the home side proves too much for the away side.

Prediction: 2-1

Steviano

Lampard is making Everton tough to beat which is no small achievement given his squad however Conte has Spurs in his image and I don’t foresee any slip ups here.

Southampton vs West Ham

Pintsized

After the domination of Anderlecht capped off a strong four-win streak, it is time to once again place all my eggs in the Moyesiah basket. Southampton will prove tricky opponents to break down at the back, yet Scamacca’s emergence into the front line should hopefully provide enough spark. Just need Declan Rice to pocket James Ward-Prowse to kill off the game.

Prediction: 0-1

Ryan

It really is a dull time to be a Southampton fan right now and a typical thrashing at the champions only served to continue their misery. West Ham seem to be putting it together now by matching wins in Europe with more domestic victories. This seems like a prime opportunity for the Hammers to build on last week with a consecutive set of 3 points.

Prediction: 0-2

Steviano

Injuries may make this more difficult for the Hammers but I will bank on late fitness tests doing the trick and consigning Hassenhutl to a fifth straight defeat and possibly the exit door.

Prediction: 1-2

Manchester United vs Newcastle

Pintsized

Having endured the Omonia match at Old Trafford, I feel comfortable in stating that Ten Hag requires more than a few transfer windows to mould a half-decent possession-based side. Dalot’s sparkling early showings have tempered out whilst the overreliance on Christian Eriksen is draining their creative pivot. Newcastle enters off the back of nine goals over two games, no doubt buoyed by the return of Callum Wilson.

Prediction: 2-2

Ryan

Erik’s reds must be the most inconsistent team in the Top 6. They were the better team at Goodison with high quality proving the tipping point last weekend and they’ll need to rely on that again. Newcastle are a tough test for anyone right now, mainly drawing with the majority but when they do win, they do with aplomb. Don’t expect too many goals here and this should be a tight one which I’ll edge to the home side.

Prediction: 2-1

Steviano

Will the real Man U please stand up, please stand up – who knows which version will play this game – lack of consistency and Toon feel good factor leads me to an away win.

Leeds United vs Arsenal

Pintsized

Messi Marsch’s super Yorkies are tasked with toppling the seemingly unbeatable Gunners. Aside from making a mesmerising Yankee headline, the battle at Elland Road should prove quite intriguing. Whilst Arsenal have to be considered heavy, heavy favourites, Leeds does have a knack for the odd humiliating upset cough, Chelsea, cough.

Prediction: 0-3

Ryan

Dare I say Arsenal are actually value for their position this season? They dismantled Liverpool at the Emirates where they grabbed a very deserved 3 points. If their old rivals are the most inconsistent team in the Top 6, Leeds are the most inconsistent team in the league. A loss at Crystal Palace continues this trend. Whilst this game should be entertaining, there’s no reason to suggest anything other than an Arsenal win.

Prediction: 1-3

Steviano

Hmm … I quite like Jesse Marsch so it’s a bit painful to see his team continue to self-destruct but I can’t see anything other than another Gunners win.

Aston Villa vs Chelsea

Pintsized

What voodoo magic has led to Ashley Young reaching his peak at 37 years old? As amusing as it is for Steven Gerrard to be carried by a former United player, Villa finds themselves in dire straits. It’s unlikely that the Midlands outfit will add to their two league wins this season, against Potter’s tactically adept Chelsea.

Prediction: 1-3

Ryan

I’d be very surprised if Steven Gerrard was managing at Villa Park by the end of the year. With his squad, he’s seriously underachieving and failing to put Forest away is a problem. Things don’t get easier when they host Potterball and a Chelsea side on the up. Destroying a typically stern Wolves defence was impressive, running through the paper thin back line here will be less so but their fans won’t care.

Prediction: 0-3

Steviano

Villa are another team short on goals although they have picked up on recent form – Potter to continue his magical start at Chelsea with four on the bounce

Prediction: 0-2

Liverpool vs Manchester City

Pintsized

Last year, this had ‘game of the season’ written all over it. During the 2022/23 campaign? Liverpool could well be on their way to swallowing a historic defeat. City feels unstoppable with the Haaland x De Bruyne linkup, whilst injuries to TAA, Diaz and Matip leave the Scousers without three key starters.

Prediction: 1-4

Ryan

Who would have thought the difference between the two sides would be this wide now? The champions are playing exactly like that by doing demolition jobs on minnows. Last season’s runners up have regressed and a rare loss at Arsenal is a concern despite the latters excellent form. The atmosphere should be good as well as the entertainment but the away team can capitalise on a big opportunity to demonstrate their superior quality overall. A high scoring affair seems likely.

Prediction: 2-4

Steviano

Probably wishful thinking given City’s atrocious record at Anfield but the return of the terminator up front should tip the balance.

Prediction: 1-3
