Premier League Matchday 13: Saturday, 27 November
Arsenal (#5, 20pts) vs Newcastle (#20, 6pts)
Pintsized
For the first time in the black and white of Newcastle, new manager Eddie Howe will be in the dugout for the Geordies. Disregarding the memes, Howe performed admirably at Bournemouth and has made an immediate impact on a dire Newcastle squad. If it wasn’t for Karl Darlow flapping at every gust of wind, Newcastle could have kept themselves ahead of Norwich – a huge task for a huge club. Arsenal’s 4-0 spanking to Liverpool cements the gap in quality between the PL’s top three and the rest. A lack of goals from Arsenal suggests even they will struggle to pepper Newcastle in a manner many have done before, while Howe’s reign already counts for 1/5 of Newcastle’s goals this campaign.
Prediction: 2-2
Ryan
Arsenal’s consistent positivity over the past few weeks was completely shattered last week at Anfield. Granted Liverpool had a point to prove themselves but they were able to romp home without much resistance. Newcastle played out an unusually exciting 3-3 draw with Brentford but are yet to score a win this season. Arsenal couldn’t have asked for an easier bounce back game and Newcastle will wait for both their first win and January.
Prediction: 3-1
Steviano
A young team will have ups and downs with the young gunners getting taught a lesson in the last game at Liverpool. A poor team will generally just have the downs and I think this is a poor Newcastle team. Newcastle should score more under Eddie Howe but lack quality in defence and will pay the price.
Prediction: 3-2

Liverpool (#3, 25pts) vs Southampton (#13, 14pts)
Pintsized
While City and Chelsea have been acquiring the media attention, Klopp’s Reds continue to move from strength to strength. Aside from playing for set-pieces, Southampton’s far inferior quality should be well and truly exposed on every inch of the park. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s form is giving Gareth Southgate a real headache.
Prediction: 3-1
Ryan
Back in the 2010s, this would have been considered as Liverpool vs future Liverpool what with their bizarre obsession with star players on the south coast. Liverpool demolished Arsenal to return to winning ways whilst Southampton became the second victim of the Norwich embarrassment with a surprising loss. Although the Saints have shown some steel in their performances, they’re perhaps unfortunate that they have to face a firing again Liverpool. A bit of a write-off for the away side here.
Prediction: 2-0
Steviano
Southampton (Norwich blip aside) have been on a good run points wise but they do not score enough goals to worry a reds side who are scoring for fun again.
Prediction: 4-1

Norwich (#19, 8pts) vs Wolves (#6, 19pts)
Pintsized
Graeme Souness is tucked away in his house, comforting himself with the fact that Billy Gilmour is indeed the greatest prospect in the world. The Scot played a key role behind Norwich’s win over Southampton and is starting to forge a mighty road to Teemu Pukki’s right boot. Wolves continue to blow hot and cold, but their squad is too strong to overlook. Raul Jiminez is slowly creeping back to stellar form while Ruben Neves treats the PL like a 5-a-side.
Prediction: 0-2
Ryan
New manager provides fresh start and first win in first game, the most ideal scenario has played out for Norwich here. They looked solid against Southampton and for the first time have left the bottom spot in the league. Wolves were equally as impressive in their solid victory against an in-form West Ham. A few weeks ago, I’d have called a Wolves win but now I can see this being much tougher than earlier in the season. A draw might be the fair result here.
Prediction: 1-1
Steviano
Back to back Norwich wins – something I didn’t this anyone would say this season – new manager bounce or Dean Smith inheriting Daniel Farke’s winning team! Wolves are organised and consistent if uninspiring and wont take the Canaries lightly.
Prediction: 1-2

Crystal Palace (#10, 16pts) vs Aston Villa (#15, 13pts)
Pintsized
If you were to place either team 10th or 16th at this stage of the season, only the bravest of souls would have placed Palace ahead. Vieira’s vision is starting to shine. Conor Gallagher has cooled off recently, but this allowed Christian Benteke to rise as the most unlikely hero. Gerrard’s Villa are still an unknown entity, yet the Villans dug deep to beat Brighton late and snap a horrendous losing streak. Douglas Luiz’s return over the coming weeks will boost a quality squad that has so far failed to find its feet.
Prediction: 2-1
Ryan
Two Premier League icons on the pitch go head to head for the first time off the pitch. In what was a wacky weekend of football last time out, Palace took part in one of two 3-3 draws against Burnley. A new manager bounce was also present at Villa Park with Steven Gerrard bringing Villa pack to winning ways. This could be a sleeper for game of the weekend with two fairly attacking styles going at each other. An entertaining score draw for me.
Prediction: 2-2
Steviano
The arrival of Gerrard was enough to break the Villa losing streak and get him off to a winning start against a Brighton team who have dipped from their strong start to the season. They travel to a Palace team who have been a welcome surprise under Viera and I think the Eagles progress will see them through this one.
Prediction: 2-1

Brighton (#9, 17pts) vs Leeds (#17, 11pts)
Pintsized
Potter may be able to lay down a shape that creates chances, but his shoestring budget leaves him unable to find a consistent finisher. A tough fixture list has also slowed Brighton to an 0-2-3 record in their last five, but dire performances from Neal Maupay and Tariq Lamptey have to be addressed. Perhaps the Leeds breakout in form will never occur this season. Perhaps it will be for the simple fact that I have lost faith in Bielsa to find the rampant goal scoring form from last year.
Prediction: 1-0
Ryan
Brighton were the victims of a new manager bounce at Villa Park in an uncharacteristically disappointing performance. Leeds also shared the same fate at Spurs but were not as disappointing in this case. This could be another entertaining game and on this occasion, I’ll go for the home team to get back to winning ways.
Prediction: 2-1
Steviano
Leeds are slowly getting players back but lack any momentum. Brighton are struggling to build on early season expectations and have hit the wall after a great start – could go either way without one team dominating so I will plump for the draw.
Prediction: 1-1
Premier League Matchday 13: Sunday, 28 November
Brentford (#14, 13pts) vs Everton (#11, 15pts)
Pintsized
All the articles on Brentford’s excellence seem to have fallen by the wayside? Thomas Frank’s men are still overperforming as a newly promoted side and their recent away draw to Newcastle will steady the ship. Ivan Toney continues to tear apart defences, there is always the chance for points when the big lad is upfront. The same old story plagues, Everton. No DCL? No party! Andros Townsend has been a solid find from Rafa, but no Andre Gomes/Yerry Mina/Tom Davies/Mason Holgate/Richarlison leaves the Spaniard with a Championship level squad.
Prediction: 2-1
Ryan
Brentford drawing against Newcastle wasn’t necessarily unexpected but few would have predicted a 3-3 result. What was more predictable was an Everton loss at home to title contenders City. After a good start to the season, Brentford seem to be losing steam and this could be a great opportunity for Rafa Benitez to kick his team back into gear.
Prediction: 0-2
Steviano
Both teams have horrendous injury lists which have dented their good starts to the season. Both teams should go for it but a point each will keep them both in mid table.
Prediction: 2-2

Man City (#2, 26pts) vs West Ham (#4, 23pts)
Pintsized
City to spank my beautiful boys in claret and blue. I can’t see any other way around it. After total dominance in Europe, the Hammers will be dragged down to earth with a bang. Moyes was lucky to scrape past City in the Carabao Cup. Sure, counter-attacking outfits have caused City headaches this season – but West Ham’s fullbacks are ridiculously out-gunned.
Prediction: 3-1
Ryan
This could be a really good watch. City blew Everton apart very comfortably last weekend whilst West Ham somewhat stumbled away to Wolves. The Hammers have proven they are capable of holding their own against any and all opposition including the top teams. Whilst this could be very close, I’ll have to tip the edge to the home team.
Prediction: 2-1
Steviano
Remarkably City may lack midfield creativity for this one without De Bruyne, Foden and Grealish. They managed to create opportunities against PSG mid-week but that was maybe more to playing against 8 men when PSG didn’t have the ball and the Hammers are far more organised at the back. Ogbonna’s absence may be the key difference in this one though.
Prediction: 2-1

Leicester (#12, 15pts) vs Watford (#16, 13pts)
Pintsized
If it weren’t for a terrible run of form, Brendan Rodgers could be sat at Old Trafford right now. Instead, Rodgers’ depleted squad has been forced to pick up scraps over the past few weeks. The Evans and Soyuncu partnership continue to dissipate at vital times while Vardy has started to show cracks. Watford will be the yo-yo team under Claudio Ranieri, pulling results like a lottery ball. Backing a shoddy Ben Foster YouTuber.
Prediction: 2-1
Ryan
Leicester were thoroughly steamrollered at home to Chelsea who are on a compete charge. Watford picked up a huge thumping win over a disorganised and disarrayed United outfit. As is normally the case when teams play their ‘cup final’, they seem to lose all of their energy for the next game. With this in mind as well as the inconsistent nature of Watford’s results, Leicester could take advantage here.
Prediction: 3-2
Steviano
Leicester’s injury list is shortening and Watford’s extending. Watford had a huge win over Utd last time out which finally saw off Ole and opened up a potential gap for Rodgers as some rumours would have it. It feels like Ranieri’s Watford are going to be a rollercoaster of a team and I think this will be one of the downs unfortunately.
Prediction: 3-1

Burnley (#18, 9pts) vs Tottenham (#7, 19pts)
Pintsized
Hahaha. Losing to NS Mura! How does a team that challenged for the Champions League final in recent years, fall quite so hard? It could only be Spurs. Conte’s post-match interview reveals the total lack of power that managers can wield under Levy’s reign. Burnley will struggle without James Tarkowski, yet their recent bounce in form has stemmed from big money man, Maxwel Cornet, finding the back of the net. Spurs will want to make a statement, but it won’t be pretty at Turf Moor.
Prediction: 1-2
Ryan
This could be stinker of the weekend with two very defensively minded teams locking horns. Weird to say that after a 3-3 draw with Palace but Burnley need to pull their finger out sooner rather than later. Spurs got the job done against Leeds but they are still far from convincing despite Antonio Conte being at the helm. I can see this being a boring and grinding affair with no-one winning at all.
Prediction: 0-0
Steviano
Conte is settling in to the Spurs role quickly and showing his managerial acumen and ability to change a game. Burnley are picking up under Dyche but I think Conte will get enough out of his team to take the spoils here.
Prediction: 1-2
Chelsea (#1, 29pts) vs Man United (#8, 17pts)
Pintsized
Carrick, to his credit, impressed with his simple tactics against Villarreal. Holding players back and dragging the game into the final twenty minutes from where their youth can shine through. Jadon Sancho netting his first goal should do a world of good to a prospect low on form. Tuchel’s Chelsea are inevitable, however. You could have both Messi and Ronaldo at this point, but you will struggle to break Chelsea’s iron curtain. No Kante, Kovacic or Chilwell will cause a bit of disarray for Chelsea, but no Varane or Maguire for United leaves them wide-open down the centre.
Prediction: 3-0
Ryan
Chelsea are the team to beat this season. They proved this once again at Leicester where a potentially tough game became a very easy 3-0 victory. As for their opponents, losing 4-1 to Watford is absolutely pathetic and disgusting. Thankfully the managerial situation seems to be sorted in the interim but for now, Carrickball makes it’s Premier League debut in arguably the toughest fixture possible at the moment. For some reason, I don’t see an embarrassing score line but Chelsea will continue their positive form here with an important 3 points.
Prediction: 2-0
Steviano
United are missing a defence (physically as well as metaphorically) which will make it very difficult for a temporary, caretaker, interim or any other kind of manager to take anything from an in form Chelsea team who have their strikers back.
Prediction: 4-1
